You are cordially invited to contribute abstract-only submissions to IROS 2017. Similar to the Late-Breaking Results posters at previous IROS’s, abstract-only submissions are one-page in length with a streamlined acceptance-decision process, and they are presented at the conference as posters. This component of the conference technical program is intended to reach out to the broader robotics research community, and the submissions are not peer-reviewed. Although accepted abstracts will be included in the conference proceedings, since they are not considered as publications, they will not be submitted to IEEE for inclusion in the Xplore database. Under the theme of Friendly People, Friendly Robots, IROS 2017 particularly welcomes submissions that address technological challenges in developing friendly robots that can work effectively with, for, and around people. As always, we also invite submissions in all areas of intelligent robots and systems, their components, and applications.

Frequently Asked Questions
What's the Abstract-only track about?
This track is to allow as many people as possible to share their work at IROS. Abstracts are reviewed for basic quality only, and are not held to the same standards as full papers.
How will my abstract appear at the conference?
Accepted abstracts will be distributed to all delegates as part of the conference materials. They will not be indexed in IEEE Xplore, and are not considered a formal publication. If your abstract is accepted, you should bring a poster to the conference.
What's the poster conference format?
Poster sessions will run at the coffee breaks morning and afternoon. Bring a paper poster and put it on your board at the allocated time, and talk to your colleagues about your work over refreshments.
What are the criteria for accepting abstract-only submissions?
The abstract should descibe robotics research or applications that will be of interest to the IROS audience. Abstracts are not formally peer-reviewed but normal standards of academic integrity and presentation apply. References should be given to pior work. Applications papers, including projects in education are welcome.
I had a paper rejected from IROS or another conference or journal. Can I submit an abstract based on that paper?
Yes.
I had a paper accepted to IROS or another conference or journal. Can I submit an abstract based on that paper?
Yes. The abstract document itself must be unique and not reproduced elsewhere.
If my abstract appears at IROS, can I send a full paper based on the same work elsewhere?
Yes. You can't reproduce the abstract itself elsewhere, but a longer paper on the same topic should be acceptable elsewhere.
Can I submit an abstract on work in progress?
Yes. If you are proud of your work so far, and your ideas will be of interest to the IROS audience. Abstracts can be somewhat speculative.
