Public Transit

Toronto public transit falls under the name Toronto Transit Commission (TTC), and spans the whole of Toronto. TTC transport methods include underground metro system, surface steetcars, and buses (coverage map). Google maps can be used to plan routes very efficiently.

Most convenient way to use public transportation in Toronto is via the Presto card, which can be loaded with money to pay for trains/metro/buses/streetcars at a slightly reduced price. The Presto card can be bought at any station/Fare Vending Machine.

Airport Access

#1) Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ):
Canada’s largest airport, 2nd busiest in North America. 25km from city centre, with direct rail link

Travel instructions YYZ-downtown:

  • UP Express (route): Very convenient and comfortable direct train from airport to Union station (downtown Toronto) – 36min to Hilton Toronto, $10.75 ($9.25+$1.50) with Presto Card
  • TTC (route): Regular public transit, typically bus-metro-metro – 1h-1h20m to Hilton Toronto, $3 with Presto Card

#2) Billy Bishop Airport (YTZ):
Smaller local airport that services direct connections to Canadian/US cities. Easy pedestrian access to/from downtown.

  • TTC (route): Regular public transit – 25min to Hilton Toronto, $3 with Presto Card
  • Complimentary Shuttle – 15min to/from Union Station, free

Taxi/Uber

Downtown Toronto has many taxis companies, and excellent Uber coverage. Most taxi companies have apps to facilitate contact.
