This session will be held in Japanese for Japanese youth and will include a lively discussion on some exciting aspects of engineering.

Hayabusa2: Successful Sample Return from Asteroid “Ryugu”

Professor Yuichi Tsuda received his doctorate in aerospace engineering from the University of Tokyo. He joined JAXA / ISAS as a researcher in 2003, and became an associate professor in 2014 and a professor in 2020, specializing in space engineering, aerospace mechanics, and space exploration. During this period, he was a visiting researcher at the University of Michigan and the University of Colorado in the U.S. From 2009 to 2013, he promoted the world's first interplanetary small solar power sail demonstrator "IKAROS" project as a sub-leader, and then promoted the Hayabusa2 project as a young project manager since 2015. He succeeded in the world's first sample return from an asteroid “Ryugu” (December 2020).
