Visit of Dr. Prabha Kundur as Distinguished Lecturer of IEEE

Dr. Prabha Kundur, from Canada, was invited as “Distinguished Lecturer” of IEEE in the period May 25th - May 30th. During his visit he delivered two lectures: The first one, entitled “Measures to Improve Power Systems Security in New Electric Power Industry Environment”, took place in the Senate Hall of University “POLITEHNICA” of Bucharest having the privilege of a large audience (professors, students, and industry specialists). The second one, entitled “Sustainable Electric Power Systems in the 21st Century”, was organized on the premises of National Power Grid Company – “Transelectrica” with the participation of specialists from power industry.

Open doors to promote young researchers

Two Workshops under the name “Open Doors to Promote New Researches” were held at University "Politehnica" of Bucharest between April 16th and May 08th. The events included the presentation of one final year project (diploma project) on “Congestion Management in Electric Power Systems” and four PhD theses treating “The Impact of FACTS Devices on the Power Flow in Power Systems”, “Contributions to optimization of Operating Regimes and Voltage Stability within Power Systems”, “Network Equivalents for Stability Studies. Modal Techniques”, and “The Influence of Modern Railways on Power Supply Systems”.

International courses: Advanced Technologies in Power Systems - FACTS and A.I.

The second edition of the International Courses on “Advanced Technologies in Power Systems - FACTS and AI” have been organized between May 26th and June 6th, within the framework of SOCRATES Programme and with the support of IEEE RoPES Chapter. The courses benefited of the participation of 19 professors from Romania and abroad, as well as the participation of 28 PhD students from Italy, England and Romania. Dr. Prabha Kundur delivered the opening speech on “Sustainable Electric Power Systems in the 21st Century”. All participants received printed handbooks.

Terminology in Electrical Power Systems

On October 2nd  Prof. Gleb Dragan, member of the Romanian Academy, presided the Workshop on “New Aspects Concerning Electrical Power Systems Terminology” attended by 24 members of RoPES Chapter, and 12 students.

International Conference on Energy and Environment - CIEM 2003

RoPES Chapter co-organized the International Conference on Energy and Environment – CIEM 2003 held at Power Engineering Faculty from University “POLITEHNICA” of Bucharest, October 23rd  - October 25th. The conference was focused on industry applications, a large number of engineers submitted papers on improved environment protection and other fields and policies liable to influence / protect the environment.
