Call for Papers

ICRA is the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society’s flagship conference and the premier international forum for robotics researchers to present and discuss their work. The 2019 conference will be held from May 20 to May 24, 2019 at the Montreal Convention Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The conference will include plenary sessions, contributed paper sessions, workshops and tutorial sessions, forums, videos, exhibitions, and robot challenges.

Authors affected by Hurricane Florence/Typhoon Mangkhut

Authors of papers in Hurricane Florence/Typhoon Mangkhut affected areas must contact the program chair, Jaydev P. Desai (jaydev@gatech.edu), for a special code to upload their ICRA 2019 papers - A new submission category of "Delayed Papers" has been created in Paperplaza and it will be open to accept those papers starting September 16, 2018.

The new deadline for uploading ICRA 2019 papers for those affected, is now September 22, 2018. The deadline for video submissions corresponding to the contributed ICRA 2019 papers is now September 29, 2018.

Contributed Papers

Papers to ICRA can be submitted through two channels:

  1. To ICRA. The page limit for each submission is flexible. However, the paper material (including text, figures, tables, acknowledgement, etc.) must fit into 6 pages, while there is no page limit for the bibliography/references (n pages) section. Papers exceeding the (6+n) page limit at the time of submission will be returned without review.
  2. To the IEEE Robotics and Automation Letters (RA-L) journal. Select the option for presentation at ICRA. Six pages in standard ICRA format are allowed for each paper, including figures and references, and a maximum of two additional pages can be purchased. Details are provided on the RA-L webpage and FAQ. Papers submitted to RA-L with ICRA 2019 presentation option that are not accepted to RA-L but are accepted to ICRA 2019, must be reformatted to the (6+n) page limit described above in order to be published and presented at ICRA 2019.

All papers are to be submitted in PDF format. We strongly encourage authors to submit a video clip to complement the submission (Video submission deadline is September 22, 2018). Videos can be submitted for both ICRA contributed papers as well as RA-L with ICRA option. However, please note that video submissions for RA-L papers with ICRA presentation option are due at the time of RA-L submission and the deadline is September 10, 2018. All video submissions will be limited to a maximum of 3 mins.

Detailed Video submission guidelines for contributed ICRA papers and RA-L submissions:

  • File size: 20MB
  • File extension check and correction: mpeg, mp4, mpg
  • Maximum duration in seconds: 180 sec.
  • Minimum height: 480
  • Minimum frame rate (fps): 20
  • Scan type: Progressive

A video that was NOT originally submitted to a contributed ICRA paper or RA-L paper with the ICRA option, will NOT be accepted at a later date in the final ICRA paper submission or the revised RA-L submission with the ICRA option, after the peer-review of the paper is completed.

For both submissions please visit this page and choose the ICRA19 or RA-L option and follow the instructions there. Templates are also available.

Paper Presentation

Papers will be presented in a combination of parallel sessions and interactive format, depending on the total number of submissions accepted. Details of the finalized presentation format will be available on the conference website at a later date.

Tutorials and Workshops

Tutorials and workshops will be held on May 23 and 24, two days after the conference technical sessions days. Tutorials will be invited. Workshops provide an informal forum for participants to discuss emerging and active research areas and proposals are called for. Follow the link below for detailed instructions for submissions of workshops and tutorials.

Video Submissions (not related to contributed papers)

Videos submitted to ICRA 2019 can show novel research results or interesting applications relevant to the conference topics. The objective of the submitted videos is to inspire the interest of the broader public to robotic research and reflect the reality of current research challenges. There will be two categories: regular videos and “bloopers”. In the blooper category, of particular interest are videos that highlight unexpected behaviour or adversarial conditions and show how that degrades the performance of the system.  We welcome videos showing early results as well as well-researched results. The emphasis should be on real systems, or realistic models. Submitted videos will be reviewed by the Conference Video Committee. Follow the link below for detailed instructions for submissions of videos.

Exhibitions

The Conference will feature an exhibition space which will be the location for refreshments during the breaks of the conference. Information for prospective exhibitors will be available on the conference website.
