There will be a limited number of grants for support of trainees (graduate students and post-doctoral fellows) to attend the conference.

The grants will be in the form of direct payments by the conference toward the conference registration, workshop, and short course fees. There will be no support available for travel or hotels. The exact number and value of grants will be determined by the available funding.

Funded by sponsors of the conference.

Applicants must have submitted an abstract to the 2014 NSS, MIC or RTSD. Based on technical merit, the technical program committees will recommend candidates to the scholarship committee for final selection. Applicants will be notified in early July. Grants will be made according to the following criteria until all available funds are committed:

• First priority to students/postdocs who are first authors of accepted abstracts
• Second priority to students/postdocs who are co-authors or presenters on accepted abstracts
• Within any category, funds will be distributed according to the date the letter of recommendation is received

The support for these grants comes from different sources. Some grants may have restrictions, e.g., limited to IEEE members. Grant recipients will be expected to write a letter of thanks to the sponsor which provided the funds for their trainee grant.

Applicants need to have their supervisor/mentor(s) complete online letters of recommendation by June 15, 2014. The request for a recommendation is sent directly to the E-mail address for your supervisor/advisor listed in your grant application. DO NOT start to complete a grant application before you have submitted all of your abstracts. If you apply for a grant, DO NOT register for the conference until you know the status of your application.

The purpose of the Valentin T. Jordanov Radiation Instrumentation Travel Grant (Jordanov Travel Grant) is to promote graduate-level study and research on radiation instrumentation and to promote membership in the IEEE.

Jordanov Travel Grant awardees will be reimbursed for approved expenses of up to $1500 associated with traveling to, and participating in, the IEEE NSS/MIC.

Funding provided by the IEEE Foundation.

Recipients must be graduate students or individuals who have obtained their highest degree less than five years prior to the start of the NSS-MIC. Preference will be given to applicants in the field of Nuclear Electronics with accepted abstracts for the NSS-MIC. Candidates should show exceptional promise in the field of Radiation Instrumentation.

Academic Advisors/Supervisors will be asked to submit a letter of recommendation. Recommendations should address financial need, demonstrated technical merit, career intentions and worthiness of the candidate. The Scholarship Committee may seek additional information to clarify how candidates meet the requirements.

All candidates for selection must have identified themselves by checking the eligibility box at the time of abstract submittal.

For outstanding student oral or poster papers presented at the NSS and MIC. The purpose of these awards is to encourage both outstanding student contributions and greater student participation as principal or sole authors of papers as well as to acknowledge the importance of student contributions to the fields embraced by NPSS.

The two best papers (two awards for each NSS and MIC) will receive cash awards of $500 each and a certificate. The two runners-up will receive a certificate.

Any student who is the principal or sole author/researcher and the presenter of either a poster or an oral paper at the NSS or MIC and who has been identified as an eligible student. If there is a tie, preference will be given first to IEEE NPSS members, then to IEEE members, and finally to non-IEEE members.

The on-site awards committee will rank the papers for technical content and originality first. Other criteria such as graphic display and clarity of data presentation may be considered.

When possible, awards will be presented the conference. If this is not possible, the recipients will be notified by mail or e-mail.

Nominees for our grant selection process should send their application forms (PDF Version, Word Version) to the respective NSS or MIC program chair.

To promote continuing education and encourage membership in NPSS.

Maximum of $750 for each NSS recipient and $750 for each MIC recipient, mostly for tuition in NPSS Sponsored Short Courses/Tutorials, but in selected cases, possibly for partial hotel room costs to attend an NSS or MIC Short Course. The grants will be in the form of direct payments by the conference toward Short Course tuition and/or partial hotel room costs. This year, we expect to make a minimum of two NSS Phelps grants for NSS and two MIC Phelps grants for MIC.

Funded by the IEEE Nuclear and Plasma Sciences Society.

Outstanding NPSS Student Members, Postdoctoral Fellows who are Members of NPSS, and unemployed Members of NPSS who need assistance in changing career direction.

Grants will be made according to the following criteria: Exceptional promise as a Graduate Student or Post Doc in any of the fields of NSS or MIC; exceptionally good work in those fields for currently unemployed NPSS members, with the expectation that attendance to one or more of the Short Courses will result in improved possibility of obtaining a job in one of the NSS or MIC fields.

The selection committee (consisting of the program and short course chairs or their designees) will recommend candidates to the general chair for final selection.

Self-nomination will not be accepted.

Presented each year at the NSS and MIC conferences.

This award is given to a young investigator in recognition of significant and innovative technical contributions to the fields of radiation instrumentation and measurement techniques for ionizing radiation.

$1500, engraved plaque, and certificate.

Funded by the NSS/MIC Conference budget.

Individuals whose highest degree has been awarded within 10 years of the date of nomination, and includes current graduate students.

Nominees will be judged by the RISC Awards Committee according to their contributions to the fields of radiation instrumentation and measurement techniques for ionizing radiation as demonstrated by the technical merit and creativity of their research. Priority will be given to nominees whose research has been published in peer-reviewed journals, especially if the nominee is first author.

The prize will be awarded at the IEEE/NPSS Nuclear Science Symposium.

This award is given to an individual in recognition of outstanding and enduring contributions to the field of radiation instrumentation.

$3000, engraved plaque, and certificate.

Funded by the NSS/MIC Conference budget.

Any individual whose long-standing contributions to the field are particularly worthy of recognition.

Primary consideration will be given to nominees who have made original and significant innovations in the field of radiation instrumentation. Other factors include a nominee's overall research contribution and his/her influence on radiation instrumentation through education.

The prize will be awarded at the IEEE/NPSS Nuclear Science Symposium.

Nominees will be judged according to their contributions to medical imaging science as demonstrated by the technical merit and creativity of their research. Priority will be given to nominees whose research has been published in peer-reviewed journals, especially if the nominee is the first author.

The prize will be awarded at the IEEE/NPSS Medical Imaging Conference.

Any individual who has made outstanding technical contributions to the field of medical imaging science.

In selecting the recipient of this award, primary consideration will be given to the impact and innovativeness of a nominee's research in the field of medical imaging science. Other factors include a nominee's research contributions over a career and his/her influence on medical imaging science through education.

The nominee is not required to be a member of the NPSS or IEEE but, where candidates have otherwise equal qualifications, preference shall be given to the candidate who is a member of the IEEE.

The prize will be awarded at the IEEE/NPSS Medical Imaging Conference.
