Initial Submission Guideline

Important Dates

Jul. 1, 2013 Notification of acceptance for papers and videos
Jul. 31, 2013 Deadline of final paper/video submission

Videos:

Videos of 1.5 to 3 minutes illustrating new and exciting results are sought for dedicated video sessions for the IROS 2013 edition. Contributed videos will be peer-reviewed and accepted videos will be presented in video session within the main conference program.

Please, note that these videos will be regarded and reviewed as separate contributed submissions with respect to multimedia attachments to contributed papers. A video submission is expected to be a stand-alone contribution, self-explanatory thanks to a comprehensive narration that makes all the typical aspects of a scientific contribution (background work, materials and methods, results, discussion, conclusions and follow up) available by exploiting a video format instead of a traditional paper format. Creative formats and contributions that can foster scientific dissemination of robotics research are highly encouraged. High-quality, semi-professional video design and production style is expected.

Basic guidelines for these videos are:

  • Focus on your own research;
  • Include an English narration;
  • Introduce the background of the research presented, explaining research objectives;
  • Describe methodology, materials and main outcomes;
  • Present experimental tests so to provide the best evidence of your results, e.g. trying to catch in the same images all the key concurrent enabling factors of your experiment;
Video submission:

In order to submit a video as well as regular papers to IROS 2013, please follow the customary electronic submission process via Paperplaza. Videos should be accompanied by an extended abstract (up to 1 pages) in the form of a PDF file and should be submitted via Video session contribution at the Paperplaza submission site for the conference.

  • This first video contribution should be self-contained and not be connected with a paper submitted to IROS 2013.
  • All video submissions should not use special codecs (coders/decoders) in order to provide as much portability across platforms as possible.
  • The most common media formats (mpeg 1 or mpeg 4) are strongly recommended.
  • Note that videos longer than 3 minutes will be automatically rejected.
  • The video contribution should not have a commercial pitch.
  • The authors of each video must have clear copyright of the audio and visual content.
  • Regarding the format of extended abstract, you are expected to submit a PDF (1 page) that has to conform to the manuscript preparation guidelines. In particular, you should use the provided templates and check the PDF for compliance within Paperplaza.
  • Paper size: As for IEEE conferences, the paper size for submission must be US Letter.
  • Paper format: Two-column format in the IEEE style is required.

IEEE Xplore will archive both accepted videos and their 1-page PDF summary. This is important because it gives authors the ability to have their video-related work to be archived, cited, and downloaded.

Plagiarism and Excessive Re-use of Author's Earlier Material:

The contents of the manuscripts should be original and they should not not being submitted simultaneously for consideration towards publication in another conference or journal. All submissions will be checked by the iThenticate tool for plagiarism and self-plagiarism. In cases of plagiarism or self-plagiarism all results will be reported to IEEE for further investigation.
